Pat Bonner urges Brendan Rodgers to complete deal for 'excellent' striker at Celtic

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has decisions to make this summer as the Irishman looks to build on winning the Scottish Premiership title.

For now, celebrations and preparing for the Scottish Cup final will take priority for the club before he starts to plot new arrivals in key positions

Internally, Rodgers is still to determine whether Adam Idah or Paulo Bernardo remain on the books after successful loan spells at Parkhead. The former doesn’t have a buyout stipulation in his agreement; meanwhile, the latter is rumoured to be available for a fee of £6.4 million.

Reports suggest that Norwich City may look to demand £5 million for Idah, which on the evidence of what he’s shown, would be a bargain in the modern-day market.

Per Transfermarkt, the Republic of Ireland international has made 18 appearances since arriving in January, scoring eight times and laying on two assists.

From 25 shots taken in the Scottish Premiership this term, the 23-year-old has hit 17 on target, illustrating his acute awareness in front of goal [Fotmob].

With transfer activity on the agenda, Celtic have some extra leeway to take advantage of after securing entry to the new Champions League format.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sportsound (Scottish Football Podcast), former Hoops goalkeeper Pat Bonner has urged his old side to fork out on Idah, speculating that he could cost between £5-6 million this summer.

Bonner stated: “If I was Celtic, I’d be trying to do a deal with Idah. He’s 23, he’s got 16 to 17 goals for Norwich, Ireland and Celtic this season. As you say, he’s big, he’s physical, he’s brave, he’s excellent.

When asked by Leanne Chrichton how much he may cost to buy, he replied: “About £5-6 million, that’s the ballpark, I don’t know for sure. I don’t think anybody’s come out from Norwich and said how much they would take for him.”

Celtic have first-hand experience of Idah’s capabilities, and it would seem senseless not to try and secure his services permanently to allow the Cork-born forward a platform to thrive moving forward.

Plenty of alternative options will also emerge that could strengthen the Bhoys’ forward line; however, the man in question has proven himself. Why not sign him up for the coming years?
