Iran's President and Foreign Minister killed in plane crash

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash on the border with Azerbaijan. The plane crash occurred on May 19, according to Mehr.

Along with the Iranian president, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who accompanied Raisi on the trip, also died in the plane crash.

In addition to them, the helicopter was carrying the Governor of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province Malek Rahmati, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in East Azarbaijan Province, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-Hashem, and several other unnamed individuals. All of them were killed.

The death of Iranian President Raisi was confirmed by Vice President Mansouri. The Iranian government will hold an emergency meeting in connection with the death of the country's President and Foreign Minister, Iranian media report.

The search operation for the helicopter lasted more than 10 hours. In particular, the media stated that one of the helicopter's passengers had allegedly been in contact. Later, Türkiye sent a drone to search for Raisi, which found the wreckage of the helicopter.
