A 42-year-old man has been charged while another remains on the run after a large cannabis factory of 1,000 plants was found in a town industrial estate.
Aurel Barpeerrja, of no fixed address, has been charged with the production of cannabis in contravention of the Misuse of Drugs Act between May 1 and 16.
He appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was remanded in custody to appear before Ipswich Crown Court on June 14.
Officers discovered the factory at around 7.55pm on Wednesday in a unit on the Chilton Industrial Estate in Addison Road, Sudbury.
Police found the plants spread across two floors. Two men fled the scene upon their entry.
Barpeerrja was apprehended by officers while the other suspect remains ‘outstanding’.
Police believe around 1,000 plants were found in the unit.
The force is encouraging residents to speak to them if they believe drug dealing is taking place in their area.
Signs of a cannabis factory include a strong or sickly-sweet smell in the air. Buildings may have windows constantly blocked off and high levels of heat and condensation coming from them, alongside a constant buzz of ventilation.
