'Definitely': Dan Burn says Newcastle United have a player in their ranks who is genuinely 'world class'

Newcastle United need world class players to go to the next level, and Dan Burn believes that the Magpies have already got exactly that.

The hope is that Newcastle United will strengthen their squad this summer, with the club no doubt keen to make a marquee signing like they have in all but one transfer window since the change of ownership.

Whoever does arrive at St James’ Park will join a talented group of players, but a group of players that has two players that are head and shoulders above the rest.

Bruno Guimaraes is a superstar for Newcastle United, and someone who Eddie Howe has already admitted is ‘world class’. That was evident on Sunday as he scored and got two assists to help the Magpies beat Brentford 4-2.

But he was not the only special performer for the Magpies on the final day of the season.

Alexander Isak was also outstanding, scoring his 25th goal of the season. He also got a fantastic assist for Jacob Murphy, as he capped off an excellent campaign with a brilliant display.

And it is performances like the one against Brentford that make Dan Burn believe that the £63million club record signing is a ‘world class’ talent.

The Toon defender has spoke to the Athletic about Isak, explaining why he has named the striker as Newcastle United’s player of the season.

“You can throw Gordie (Gordon) into the mix, Bruno has been amazing and Fabi (Schar) won’t get as much of a mention as he should,” he said.

“But it’s Alex for me. To get that many Premier League goals speaks for itself.

“He’s world class, definitely. He’s got a bit of everything. He’s so good on the ball, he’s a great finisher, he’s got pace.”

Isak is in the conversation for Newcastle’s player of the season

Burn believes that Isak has been Newcastle’s best player this season, and it is easy to understand why. No one has scored more goals than him, with Isak hitting the back of the net 25 times.

Isak has scored a lot of goals, and most of them have been exceptional. The quality of Isak’s goals is extremely high, with the Swede netting stunners against Manchester City and Chelsea.

He also got two against Sunderland, as he became the new Mackem slayer.

But for me, Isak is not Newcastle United’s player of the season. That honour should go to Anthony Gordon. He has been just as impactful, but has been much more durable.

While Isak has had a great year, it could have been even better had he not suffered from a groin injury. He was unavailable for 10 games this season, while Gordon was only absent on three occasions.

You could also nominate Bruno for player of the season, as the Brazil international has enjoyed another breathtaking year in black and white.

There is no doubt that he is world class, and Burn believes that Isak deserves the same tag.
