Major boost for Lopetegui as report claims 6ft 4in giant 24-year-old wants to join West Ham

Julen Lopetegui seems to be on course to bring a really talented player to West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

Julen Lopetegui has a really big squad overhaul ahead of him at West Ham, and he’s apparently planning to sign six new players.

The Spaniard should be prioritising the additions of a striker, left winger, central midfielder, two full-backs and a centre-half.

However, considering the fact that we shipped 74 Premier League goals this season, perhaps the latter should be Lopetegui’s chief priority in the summer transfer window.

Kurt Zouma is quite clearly past it now, and the Hammers are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for him.

Meanwhile Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna might not be at the London Stadium next season either. Personally, the only centre-back I would keep is Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Whether Lopetegui agrees with that notion or not remains to be seen, but it does seem like he’s on the hunt for a big central defensive upgrade…

The former Wolves boss will need to build some solid foundations, if he wants to improve the Hammers before the start of the 2024/25 season.

And in order to do that, the addition of a truly top-class central defender will be absolutely pivotal to his plans.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, West Ham want to sign RB Salzburg centre-back Oumar Solet this summer.

He’s a fantastic defender and is perfectly built for the Premier League. The icing on the cake is that the 24-year-old Frenchman allegedly wants to join the Hammers.

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, Solet is an absolute powerhouse, and always relishes the physical battle with opposing attackers when playing.

Total Football Analysis highlight just how much talent and potential the Frenchman has:

“Solet has the potential to be one of the next great players who find their place in one of Europe’s top leagues”.

Despite Solet’s tenders years, he has already played 106 games for RB Salzburg. If Lopetegui manages to sign him for West Ham in the summer transfer window, it will be a great way to kick off his Hammers tenure.

He’s apparently available for around £17 million (Sempre Inter) and in this day and age, that’s good value in my book.
