'Opened his eyes': Ian Wright says there's something Daniel Levy must do at Tottenham now

Ian Wright has claimed Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy must do one thing this summer.

Ange Postecoglou looks set for a busy summer ahead after a promising debut campaign at Spurs. The Aussie boss took over in difficult circumstances after Tottenham missed out on Europe for the first time since 2009 last term.

Harry Kane also headed out the door and many thought this season would be particularly tough for the north Londoners.

Despite a run of five defeats in their last seven games, Spurs secured a fifth-place finish with a 3-0 victory at Sheffield United on Sunday.

With the Lilywhites back in the Europa League, Ian Wright has called for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to back Postecoglou in the transfer market.

Wright says Levy must back Postecoglou at Tottenham

Postecoglou pulled no punches after Spurs’ 2-0 defeat to Manchester City last week.

The former Celtic boss was displeased with suggestions that Tottenham would be content with a loss due to the effect it would have on Arsenal’s push for the Premier League title.

Following yesterday’s win at Bramall Lane, Postecoglou was asked if he was happy with his first season in charge.

While the Spurs boss said he enjoyed the season as a whole, he’s keen to push on due to his ‘lofty ambitions’ for the club.

Reacting to Postecoglou’s comments on Match of the Day, Wright said: “I think him saying he’s got lofty ambitions for the club and until he reaches that point he’s not going to be smiling too much, they’ve got a manager that wants to win.

“The whole thing now that Daniel Levy will back him because the last couple of weeks, probably, has really opened his eyes.

“This manager needs backing now, he’s a winner. That’s what he needs now. You’ve got too many managers saying the same thing.”

Tottenham’s summer plans

With Postecoglou clearly keen to take Spurs back towards the top end of the table, this summer feels like a crucial window.

The north Londoners have already made some positive additions to his squad, with Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison all improving the starting XI.

There is plenty of work to be done though and Postecoglou has reportedly decided he wants a centre-back, midfielder and striker.
