The situation in the Kharkiv region remains tough. Ukrainian forces managed to stabilize the situation, particularly in Vovchansk, according to a spokesman for the Khortytsia military unit Nazar Voloshyn.
"Currently, the situation and operational situation in the Kharkiv region remains difficult and is changing dynamically. However, our defense forces and all the units involved have managed to stabilize the situation, particularly in the city of Vovchansk," he said.
Voloshyn added that the Russian troops are not giving up their attempts to break through the defense of Ukrainian units near Lyptsi, Vovchansk, and Starytsia.
"The invaders combine ground assaults with air strikes, of course. The occupants are using aviation to launch rocket and bomb attacks on Kharkiv and other localities in the region," he said.
The Khortytsia spokesman added that in the Kharkiv sector, the Russian army carried out 83 attacks over the past day, while five combat clashes have already taken place this morning.
"I have to note that the number of combat clashes with the enemy has almost halved compared to the previous day. The enemy, of course, continues to try to focus its efforts on the direction of Strilecha, Lyptsi, and capturing Vovchansk with further access to Bilyi Kolodiaz and launching an offensive right in the rear of our troops," he said.
Voloshyn added that the Russian military created and significantly strengthened an operational and tactical grouping of troops near the border.
"However, our Defense Forces are holding on, trying to push the occupation troops towards Hlyboke and in the area of Vovchansk, where the enemy intended to gain a foothold in residential areas. But our defenders are doing everything possible to prevent it," he said.
Offensive in Kharkiv region
May 2024 was marked by an escalation in the Kharkiv sector. Russian troops launched an offensive, seeking to push back Ukrainian units and seize new territory.
According to the General Staff, fierce fighting is taking place near the settlements of Vovchansk, Starytsia, and Lyptsi. Russia is throwing all its efforts to break through the Ukrainian defense, striking with artillery, mortars, and multiple rocket launchers.
According to the Kharkiv Military Regional Administration, Ukrainian forces managed to repel most of the enemy's attacks and retain control over 60% of the territory of Vovchansk. But the shelling continues regularly, and enemy assaults do not stop.
