Chelsea have put two players up for sale this summer who Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep - journalist

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has made his feelings about a couple of his players clear ahead of the summer transfer window.

Thiago Silva is leaving Chelsea after he failed to agree a new contract with the club.

However, the central defender is unlikely to be the only departure at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Because of profit and sustainability rules, the Blues may have to sell a few of their players.

Ian Maatsen is one name that is set to depart, with it being claimed that Borussia Dortmund are preparing their first offer for the left-back, who they currently have on loan.

Mauricio Pochettino makes stance clear

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Pochettino is firmly against the idea of Chelsea selling two of his players.

Phillips claimed on his Substack that the Argentine views Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah as key figures in his squad and does not want them to be sold as a result.

That could be a bit of an issue, though, with The Telegraph reporting that Chelsea will put a £25m price tag on Chalobah this summer, suggesting that he is for sale.

As for Gallagher, a report from the Daily Mail in March also claimed that the club were actively trying to offload the midfielder.

Should Chelsea sell Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah this summer?

As long as Pochettino remains manager, no. They have been important players for him this season and it is quite clear that he does not want them to depart.

Gallagher has played 50 times under the Argentine, while Chalobah has been key in Chelsea’s upturn in form.

The Blues won all five of their final five Premier League fixtures and the centre-back played in all of them.

From a football perspective, it does not make sense to sell either of them. Unfortunately for Pochettino, though, the club also have to look at things from a financial point of view.
