‘Top class’: Manager delighted as forgotten ‘brilliant’ on-loan Celtic player keeps title hopes alive

As every Celtic fan knows, the club has had many players out on loan this season as the size of the squad grew.

We have seen players like Mikey Johnston and Hyeokkyu Kwon both make temporary moves and shine at the likes of West Bromwich Albion and St Mirren respectively.

Both players are now heading back to Celtic with much-needed game time under their belts but questions still remain on whether or not they still have a future at the club.

However, there is a forgotten Celtic player who has been out on loan since December 2022 and is doing well at his loan club.

Johnny Kenny shines away from Celtic

The 20-year-old youngster joined Celtic in Ange Postecoglou’s first season at the club and never made a single first-team appearance.

Now at Shamrock Rovers, Kenny seems to have found a new lease of life and was involved in a season-defining 1-0 win over Derry City where the on-loan Celtic player scored the winner.

And his current manager, Stephen Bradley, sang his praises post-match.

Bradley said [Shamrock Rovers TV], “I thought Johnny, his performance tonight was top-class. I thought his movement was brilliant, his timing of his movement was very good.

“We need to find him a little bit quicker at times and that understanding will build when you have Graham and Jack coming back into the team.

“That movement and that understanding will come but I thought his all-around game today was brilliant.”

Young Kenny has made over 50 first-team appearances in the League of Ireland for The Hoops and ha scored 12 goals and created five assists.

Seven of those goals have been at crucial stages of this season as Kenny’s strikes have won five points alone helping Shamrock Rovers stay within the title race this season. [Transfermarkt]

Sitting third, The Rovers face top-of-the-table Shelbourne where a win will take them within three points of the league leaders and a real chance of winning the title.
