Liam Scales shares what Brendan Rodgers did before Celtic beat St Mirren on Trophy Day

With the Scottish Premiership trophy now resting in the Parkhead boardroom trophy cabinet, the Celtic fans can now look forward to the Scottish Cup final against Rangers on Saturday.

The team looks rejuvenated and back to its best and since controversially losing to Hearts at the beginning of March, Brendan Rodgers‘ team went on an eleven-game unbeaten run to ensure the title remained at Parkhead at the end of this season.

There have been ups and downs in the form of this Celtic team, of that there is no doubt, and there has also been the much-talked-about ‘narrative’ that Rodgers has had to deal with.

But, when it mattered, Celtic stepped up and managed to get theirthird title in a row over the line. And Liam Scales has shared what the Hoops boss did prior to the St Mirren game to motivate his players on Trophy Day.

Rodgers showed Celtic ‘criticism’ to champions

We discussed over the weekend how Brendan Rodgers spoke about speaking to the Celtic players about the criticism they have had to endure since August last year.

And here, Scales shares exactly what the Celtic boss told his players and even he admits the levels of criticism aimed at him and his teammates really opened his eyes.

Scales said [The Herald], “The season didn’t start very well, getting knocked out of the League Cup early on.

“A lot of the narrative was about us crumbling a bit. And it would be nice to put that to bed by sealing a double.

“He [showed us some of the criticism] before the game. Looking back, I didn’t realise that at the time as I sort of keep away from that sort of stuff. But we were criticised from all angles.

“It was going on in the background for me, but it will be good to get it over the line this weekend and prove people wrong I suppose which is always a nice thing to do.”

Scales has been enjoying a brilliant season at Celtic and he is also hoping to cap it off with a Scottish Cup final win against Rangers.

The Republic of Ireland defender has seen his contract get extended and his international career get off the ground in what he describes as an ‘unbelievable‘ season for him.

Hopefully, come Saturday, a Scottish Cup winners medal will be adorned around his neck as Scales looks to pick up his fourth major honour at Celtic.
