When Anthony Gordon will find out if he's in England's final Euros squad after making provisional list

The provisional England squad for Euro 2024 has been released, and Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon is in it.

For the first time in his career, Anthony Gordon could be going to a senior international tournament, after making his England debut back in March.

Now the Newcastle United star has been named in the provisional squad for the Euros, much to the delight of pundits such as Micah Richards, who tipped the 23-year-old to get a callup from Gareth Southgate.

Gordon, who has been one of the Magpies’ best players this season, has got exactly that, despite currently suffering from an ankle injury. He picked up the issue in the recent 3-2 defeat to Manchester United, and it resulted in him missing the final day of the season. It has also ruled him out of the trip to Australia, which might be a blessing.

But it was reported that the injury would not be enough to cost Gordon a place in the England squad, and that has proven to be the case.

When the final 26-man England squad will be announced

Gordon is one of two Newcastle United players selected, with Kieran Trippier also included. That comes as no surprise despite his recent fitness issues, with Trippier proving to be one of Gareth Southgate’s most trusted players.

However, there was no room for Nick Pope or Callum Wilson in the squad, with Southgate listing 33 players that will be reduced to 26 before the European Championship kicks off in Germany.

Seven players will be removed from the squad, which means Gordon and Trippier are still not guaranteed to be going to the Euros. They will find out soon enough, with the FA stating that the final 26-man squad will be announced on June 8th.

Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier have the chance to play at St James’ Park

Before that, England have two friendlies, one of which is at Newcastle United’s home of St James’ Park.

The Three Lions are heading to the North East on June 3rd, where they will face Bosnia And Herzegovina in a friendly. Gordon and Trippier will be desperate to be involved in that game, with plenty of Toon fans set to be in attendance.

After that, England travel to Wembley for their final friendly against Iceland on June 7th – one day before Southgate announces his final squad.

This 33-man provisional squad will link up on May 29th, although it is unclear when Gordon and Trippier will begin training. The FA state that Newcastle and Tottenham players will join at a later date due to their commitments in Australia, while it is uncertain when Gordon will be over this ankle injury.
