‘Amazing’: MLS legend claims another Inter Miami player can now do something Lionel Messi excels at

MLS legend Ignacio Piatti has now claimed that an Inter Miami player can do something that Lionel Messi has excelled at in recent years.

The Argentine international brought his world-class qualities to Florida last summer with Inter Miami this season excelling because of Messi, with the Herons sat top of the MLS Supporters’ Shield standings.

As well as producing his own record-breaking performances, Messi has greatly elevated the quality of his Inter Miami teammates, with a number of players looking noticeably better when playing alongside the 36-year-old.

Leonardo Campana now emulating Messi’s space-awareness for Inter Miami

Speaking on MLS El Resumen, league icon Piatti noted how Leonardo Campana is now using space to his advantage in the same way Messi does for Inter Miami after the 23-year-old’s heroics on Saturday.

The Ecuador international won all the plaudits over the weekend after scoring deep into stoppage time with Inter Miami to help the Herons win 1-0 against DC United, with Campana scoring just seconds after coming on.

And the goal itself was a work of art, with Campana rightly being praised by the likes of Jordi Alba for his heroics on Saturday, with Piatti now joining in on the hype train for the Inter Miami youngster.

Piatti said: “Campana comes on in stoppage time, and with great vision from Busquets, he finds the space and drops into it to get into a scoring position. To have that confidence and for Inter Miami to not only depend on Messi or Rojas to make those kind of runs, it’s amazing.”

Campana learning as much from Messi as possible is huge for the Herons

It’s a theme that’s been beaten to death at this point, but Inter Miami without Messi simply aren’t the same team, with the Herons often struggling when the Argentine international is not on the pitch.

Which is why Campana learning as much from the reigning Ballon d’Or is so important for Inter Miami’s success this season, with the striker more than good enough to lead the line for the Florida franchise.

And moments on Saturday highlight just how good Campana can be with the right services, with the Ecuador international a talented forward who is still way off from hitting his full potential at Inter Miami.
