'I think': Journalist says £54m player could leave Man City to make MLS move in 2025

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that one player at Manchester City could head to the MLS (Major League Soccer) in 2025.

It seems like several exits could be on the cards for City.

On Tuesday, it was also claimed by Dean Jones that Erling Haaland could leave Manchester City to join Barcelona at the end of next season.

It was also reported on the same day that Ederson Moraes could leave the club in the summer.

Journalist: Man City star could be headed for MLS transfer next year

Now, Dean Jones has revealed on the Ranks FC podcast that after next season comes to an end, Kevin De Bruyne could be destined for a move to MLS.

Jones said: “I think it’s not just Pep [Guardiola] who leaves next season. I think Kevin De Bruyne probably has one season left at Man City before he goes to MLS.”

In February, it was reported that Kevin De Bruyne had two ideas in mind for the future during the summer of 2024 — to either sign a contract renewal and retire at City or join the MLS eventually.

With the £54.5 million man’s contract at Manchester City set to expire in 2025, he might have made up his mind.

De Bruyne may wish to make a similar decision to Kroos

If Kevin De Bruyne has indeed decided to sign for a club in the MLS at the end of his contract, he might be viewing his career like Toni Kroos has.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed on Real Madrid’s official website that Kroos had decided to retire, with Euro 2024 set to be the last time he plays football.

The German remains one of the best players in the world but perhaps he intended to hang up his boots on a high.

While De Bruyne’s retirement plans remain unknown, if he does join an MLS club next year, he would be departing European football while being one of the best players in world football.

A club legend in particular would not enjoy eventually becoming a burden for their team as their athleticism and overall sharpness declines.

Perhaps Kevin De Bruyne is warming up to the idea of the likes of Phil Foden and Oscar Bobb taking over from him sooner rather than later — as Manchester City’s next generation of attacking midfielders emerge.

Similarly, Toni Kroos also seems ready to hand the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga the mantle at Real Madrid.
