A fresh update on the Sheffield Wednesday contract state of play has now been shared, after the Owls announced their retained list.
Sheffield Wednesday recently announced their retained list following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
It sprung up few surprises; one being George Byers‘ release and another being the club’s decision to offer goalkeeper Cameron Dawson a new deal.
There were also contract offers for club captain Barry Bannan, as well as Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa, Liam Palmer, Will Vaulks and Josh Windass.
The likes of Tyreeq Bakinson, Ciaran Brennan, Juan Delgado, Lee Gregory and Reece James are all being released; James is now set for talks with Rotherham United.
And as we approach a summer bound to be a busy one in S6, a new update on contract offers has now been shared.
Fresh Sheffield Wednesday contract update emerges
An emerging report from The Star has revealed that some contract talks ‘are likely to prove more complex than others in negotiation’.
The same report also added that a ‘source close to one of the proposed new deals described discussions over a new contract as ‘far from done’’, and that ‘at least one other is understood to be the subject of important further talk’.

The above report certainly suggests that contract talks and offers at Sheffield Wednesday are not cut and dried.
And it may soon become clear that certain players are weighing up their futures at the club, most likely Bernard and Windass.
It’s been reported recently that both players have interest from elsewhere, with Windass known to have interest from the likes of Derby County, Hull City, Stoke City, and West Brom.
Both he and Bernard enjoyed decent 2023/24 campaigns, Bernard especially, and there may be others such as Vaulks who are entertaining interest from elsewhere, after a strong season.
Previous comments from Bannan suggested that he’s staying, whilst Palmer recently spoke of his desire to top the Owls’ all-time appearances list, which could indicate towards him staying.
Dawson may well consider his future despite the offer; he’ll no doubt play no.2 again next season if the Owls re-sign James Beadle, failing that, Danny Rohl will likely bring in another no.1.
So Dawson may consider dropping down the leagues to play more regular first-team football next season.
Iorfa may fall into that category as well, though it certainly seems like Sheffield Wednesday could go through a lot of changes to the squad this summer, with plenty of outgoings and incomings expected.
