Report: Chelsea considering four managers to replace Mauricio Pochettino as he leaves by mutual consent

Chelsea reportedly have four potential managers that they will consider after it was mutually agreed that Mauricio Pochettino will leave Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea confirmed via their official website on Tuesday evening that they and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways.

Pochettino said: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”

Chelsea to consider four managers

The Telegraph broke the news about Pochettino’s exit from Stamford Bridge shortly before it was officially announced.

It is claimed in the report that there’s already four coaches the Blues are likely to be considering to replace Pochettino in the manager’s dugout next season.

The report says that Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness and Girona’s Michel are two of the quartet. In addition, Chelsea may look at Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca.

Interestingly, Maresca and McKenna are two young inexperienced managers that both achieved promotion from the Championship this season with Leicester and Ipswich, respectively. It would be the first time as a senior manager at a top-flight club for either.

Meanwhile, Hoeness led Stuttgart to a very impressive second-placed finish in the German Bundesliga. As for Michel, he has helped Girona seal third spot in the Spanish La Liga.

Was Mauricio Pochettino’s exit right?

The Chelsea Chronicle’s immediate reaction to Pochettino leaving this evening is one of huge disappointment.

Chelsea won their final five Premier League games to seal sixth spot and European football, while playing some eye-catching football and gelling together as a young group.

It feels a massive shame that the Blues hierarchy couldn’t come to an agreement with Pochettino, who’s gone halfway into a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

It’s worth stressing that the departure is by mutual consent, though.

Unfortunately, it feels like there’s a risk the club will be back at square one this summer despite making steps forward with Pochettino.
