'He's done it': Tottenham reportedly want to sign £12m player who Dele Alli thinks is 'fantastic'

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in signing a player who once impressed Dele Alli.

Spurs finished their season with a good win at Sheffield United, but their hopes of making it into next season’s Champions League were dead before a ball was kicked at Bramall Lane.

Ange Postecoglou knows he needs to strengthen his team to achieve that goal next term, and his side have now been linked with a player who knows Tottenham very well.

What Dele Alli once said about Tottenham target Kyle Walker-Peters

Kyle Walker-Peters is no stranger to Tottenham supporters.

The Englishman joined Spurs as a teenager all the way back in 2013 and came through the ranks at the club’s academy. He really impressed at youth level.

Walker-Peters was first given a senior opportunity in a post-season tour in May 2015, but his full debut came in September two years later – against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

He went on to make 24 senior appearances for Spurs in all competitions, but in the end, Tottenham decided they had no place for him.

After a successful loan spell at Southampton, the Saints signed him on a permanent deal in 2020 for a fee of £12 million (Daily Mail).

After four years at the St Mary’s and a number of incredible performances, Walker-Peters has become a wanted man again, and his former club, Tottenham, are keeping an eye on him.

Reports have claimed that Spurs are considering re-signing Walker-Peters if Emerson Royal leaves the club once the transfer window opens in June.

Tottenham fans already know how good the full-back is, but if they have any doubts, Dele Alli‘s comments about him could convince them.

The former Tottenham midfielder claimed after Walker-Peters’ debut in August 2017, as per Sky Sports: “He is a fantastic player. He’s been working really hard in training.

“You’re at a club with a manager where, if you play well in training and you work hard, you know you are going to get your opportunity to play in the Premier League.

“He’s done it and he took it and it was a great performance by him, so there is going to be some competition now. I am really happy for him.”

One reason why Walker-Peters is a big upgrade on Emerson Royal

There was a lot of hype when Tottenham signed Emerson Royal from Barcelona in the summer of 2021.

The Brazilian had a good time in La Liga at Real Betis, where his performances attracted a number of suitors, including current Premier League runners-up Arsenal.

Tottenham fans were excited about Emerson, but he just hasn’t lived up to the hype. The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order as well, with Pedro Porro significantly ahead of him. Roy Keane went as far as saying he’ll never be good enough.

Emerson has been linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, and we think Kyle Walker-Peters would be a huge upgrade on him at right-back.

The one reason why the Englishman would be a great signing for Spurs is because he can also play at left-back when required.

Emerson was deployed there on a few occasions in the 2023/24 season, most notably against Liverpool, and Mohamed Salah destroyed him in what was a nightmare performance from the Brazilian.
