Morgan Gibbs-White posts wordless message on Instagram and then deletes it after England squad announcement

Gareth Southgate named his provisional 33-man England squad for Euro 2024 yesterday and there wasn’t a place for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White.

The man who won the Under-21 European Championship last summer will instead be embarking on beaches in Dubai rather than fighting for glory in Germany.

Gibbs-White has had to watch as several other players from last summer’s squad make the training squad.

Adam Wharton, James Trafford, Cole Palmer and Jarrell Quansah are all provisionally in the reckoning.

For Gibbs-White, however, Southgate has deemed that 10 assists – the third-best in the Premier League this season – and five goals simply isn’t enough.

After the announcement, Forest playmaker Gibbs-White appeared to do something that suggested he wasn’t overly happy.

What Morgan Gibbs-White did after finding out England squad

It would appear as though the 24-year-old found this as amusing as Forest fans who defended Gibbs-White on social media.

Although nobody is saying he should be playing ahead of the likes of Phil Foden, it’s crazy that he can’t make a 33-man training squad.

Gibbs- White seemed to post on his story a black background with four laughing emojis on his Instagram after the squad was announced.

This post was quickly deleted and perhaps the youngster doesn’t want to hamper any further chances he’s got of making a squad.

Forest now face fight to keep Gibbs-White

This will have given something for Gibbs-White to think about.

After enjoying the season he just has and not made the England squad, he must be wondering whether he needs to leave the club.

West Ham and Tottenham have been linked with Gibbs-White but hopefully, Forest can keep him around.

The Reds would command a huge transfer fee should the attacker leave and clubs will need to prepare to dig deep.

It’s clearly disappointing for Gibbs-White that he’s been overlooked for England but he can now get a proper rest and come back ready to prove a point in July.
