‘Would put him above’: Jamie Carragher now shares who thinks is better… Arsene Wenger or Jurgen Klopp

Jamie Carragher has delivered his verdict on who’ll go down as the greater manager – former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger or now former Liverpool man Jurgen Klopp.

Jurgen Klopp bid farewell to Liverpool supporters on Sunday and signed off with a 2-0 victory over Wolves at Anfield.

Much like Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, the German boss missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

But Klopp signed off with a League Cup in his final season and scooped a total of eight trophies during his eight-and-a-half-year spell in Merseyside.

For many, Klopp will stand among the great managers of the Premier League era after winning every piece of silverware available to him at Liverpool.

This would place him in similar company to the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger.

The latter remains the longest-serving manager in the league’s history after spending 22 years at Arsenal, picking up three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups in the process.

Yet, Jamie Carragher has explained why he would put Klopp above Wenger in his all-time Premier League managers list.

Carragher says Klopp stands ‘above’ Wenger

Speaking on Stick to Football, Carragher placed Klopp above Wenger due to the former Arsenal boss’ lack of success in European competitions.

“I would put him [Klopp] above Wenger, the only reason being is the Champions League. They didn’t quite crack that Arsenal,” the Liverpool legend said.

“He got to three finals and won it once, I just think coming up against City, points totals as well. I put Pep top of Premier League.

“I think Sir Alex Ferguson, what he did at Aberdeen, maybe puts him above Pep. That’s a debate in itself but in terms of the Premier League, Guardiola has won six in seven and he’s only been here eight years. I would go Pep, Ferguson, Jose and then I’d put Klopp next.”

Klopp and Wenger’s Premier League records compared

This is a debate that will certainly divide opinion, with Klopp scooping a Champions League while Wenger’s achievement of going a full Premier League season unbeaten remains unmatched.

Both managers enjoyed the ultimate success at their clubs and boast a brilliant record in the Premier League alone.

Klopp took charge of 334 games in England’s top flight, winning 209, drawing 78 and losing 47 times.

As for Wenger, he managed a staggering total of 828 league games at Arsenal. His record stands at 476 wins, 199 draws and 153 defeats.

Klopp certainly has the edge when it comes to the variety of trophies he scooped at Liverpool, having won the League Cup and Champions League – two trophies Wenger failed to secure.

But the Frenchman picked up two more trophies than Klopp and also managed more league titles.
