‘Why not?’: John Hartson believes Celtic could sign ‘fantastic’ goalkeeper who’s ‘better’ than Joe Hart

As Celtic looks forward to the Scottish Cup final against Rangers this weekend, a lot of attention has been diverted to the clubs’ transfer business this summer.

Anthony Joseph kicked it all off yesterday as he gave an update on potential incomings and outgoings at Parkhead.

Rumours surrounding Stephen Welsh joining Neil Lennon at Rapid Bucharest also took hold but those were quashed in an early update this morning.

However, it’s who is going to replace Joe Hart at Celtic this summer that has been the big talking point over the last week as the Celtic hero bowed out in style at Parkhead on Trophy Day.

Hartson urges Celtic to sign Fraser Forster

The former Celtic hero was speaking about the goalkeeping situation and urged his former club to take a look at Forster who is being let go by Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Hartson said [The Go Radio Football Show], “Yes. I think a lot of supporters will also feel the same. I think he did nothing but great things last time he was at Celtic.

“I think he was seen as one of the best goalkeepers they’ve ever had. He was involved in the success at Celtic, made some fantastic saves.

“Why not? If Celtic can do a deal and Brendan Rodgers still feels Fraser Forster is more than capable of coming in.

“When a goalkeeper like Joe Hart leaves, who has been so successful, you might not replace Joe Hart but you’ve got to try and get something as close to him.

“A lot of people will say Fraser Forster is as good if not better in terms of being the right age, a little bit younger than Joe Hart. So yes, I could see it happening and the budget and wages and everything come together.”

The Celtic fans will always remember Fraser Forster for that iconic performance against Barcelona when Celtic beat Lionel Messi’s side 2-1 at Parkhead.

Messi called Forster’s performance that night as ‘not human‘ as he earned the nickname of ‘The Great Wall’ by the Spanish press.

However, under Ange Postecoglou, the former Hoops hero has struggled for game time and he is set to be allowed to leave the North London club this coming summer.
