Reporter close to David Sullivan lifts lid on big West Ham transfer meeting pencilled in for today

A vitally important West Ham United transfer meeting will apparently take place today.

The upcoming summer transfer window will be crucial for West Ham, with incoming manager Julen Lopetegui facing a big rebuild.

The 57-year-old former Wolves boss wants to make at least six new signings, and up to 12 Hammers have been linked with the London Stadium exit door.

We’ve already told you how Lopetegui plans to guide West Ham to the Champions League, after he told David Sullivan exactly that during preliminary talks.

In order to have any chance of doing just that, the Spaniard needs to bring in numerous top-class players, and lower the average age of the squad.

If Lucas Paqueta leaves this summer, we will have only six first-team players under the age of 29! That’s obviously not good enough, but Lopetegui is clearly keen to address the state of the current squad as a matter of urgency…

So, the Hammers are seemingly getting all of their transfer ducks in a row before the summer window has even opened for business.

And in all fairness, that’s exactly what the club needs to do, with such a big squad overhaul lying in wait for Lopetegui.

According to Sean Whetstone, Lopetegui is set to sit down for a meeting with Tim Steidten, the German’s brother Moritz and the rest of the recruitment team today.

The new Hammers boss needs to sign a new striker, left-back, right-back, centre-back, defensive midfielder and a left winger as an absolute bare minimum in my opinion.

It is suggested that the Spaniard will thrash out his recruitment strategy with Steidten and co:

Now, it was recently claimed that Lopetegui and Steidten have already held talks regarding this summer’s transfer strategy.

So perhaps this meeting is one where the Spaniard’s targets will be finalised, as the Hammers begin their assault on the transfer market.

The big West Ham transfer meeting pencilled in for today should set us up nicely for the summer window ahead.

Let’s just hope that all the people involved in the decision making process are on the same page.
