Homeless man charged with sexually assaulting 4-year-old boy in N.J. park

A 56-year-old homeless man was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy in a Morristown park.

The alleged assault took place May 9 at George Gramby Memorial Park, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday.

The prosecutor’s office learned of the incident on May 15, investigated and took John Dowd into custody that day. Dowd is charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Attorney information wasn’t immediately available.

Dowd, who spends most of his time in Morristown, is being held at the Morris County jail. No date for a detention hearing has been set, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office said. He is represented by a public defender.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200 or Morristown police at 973-538-2200.
