'I can confirm: Sky Sports journalist shares update on 'fantastic' manager after Chelsea enquire about him

Chelsea have enquired about appointing one manager, but he is expected to snub the chance to take the Stamford Bridge job.

The Blues parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday after just one year at the helm. The Argentine led the West Londoners to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, which is excellent considering where they were at the turn of 2024.

However, Chelsea and Pochettino decided it was time to move on, and the Blues are now on the hunt to find his successor.

The latest on Sebastian Hoeness after Chelsea enquiry

Sebastian Hoeness was one of the best managers in the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season.

The German led Stuttgart to a second-place finish – ahead of Bayern Munich. He did a tremendous job and his team was just a joy to watch all season.

The ‘fantastic‘ Hoeness, still only 42, has a bright future in management.

He is destined to join a bigger club one day, and Chelsea’s owners are big admirers of him as they look for candidates to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has now revealed that the Blues actually enquired about appointing Hoeness as their new manager.

However, the journalist claimed that he is absolutely convinced that Hoeness will stay at Stuttgart next season having signed a new contract recently.

Plettenberg said: “I can confirm that FC Chelsea have enquired about Sebastian Hoeness in recent weeks.

“Nevertheless, I am totally convinced that Sebastian Hoeness will stay 100 per cent at VFB Stuttgart to go in the next season, to play in the Champions League. He has extended his contract a few weeks ago until 2027 with some exit options.

“As I said, Chelsea had him on the list, (which is) a big, big thing for Sebastian Hoeness, but I am totally convinced he will not leave VFB Stuttgart right now.”

Another German manager will not become the Chelsea boss

Sebastian Hoeness isn’t the only German manager who has been linked with the Chelsea job.

The Blues have a number of names on their shortlist to replace Mauricio Pochettino, and discussions are taking place over who to appoint as the Argentine’s successor.

Plettenberg, who has now claimed that Hoeness will not join Chelsea, has also ruled out the possibility of another German manager taking the Blues job – Hansi Flick.

The journalist claimed that he has been told by sources that Flick will not become the next Chelsea boss.

“Been told from the coach’s circle that Hansi Flick will not become the new coach of Chelsea. The 59 y/o is focused on other projects,” he said.
