Report: Chelsea think their pursuit of 'brilliant' manager is moving in the right direction, contact now made

Chelsea believe that they’re actually making some progress in their pursuit of one managerial candidate.

Chelsea are now into just their second full day of trying to find a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino, whose exit from Stamford Bridge by mutual consent was confirmed on Tuesday.

The Blues are now on the hunt for their fourth permanent head coach under these owners.

Chelsea chase for manager moves in the right direction

The Guardian has claimed that Chelsea are confident they can quickly name their next manager after contacting Ipswich Town and signalling their interest in Kieran McKenna.

Ipswich boss McKenna, who’s just achieved back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League, is in demand because of his remarkable job at Portman Road.

It is explained that Chelsea first made contact with McKenna’s representatives several weeks ago.

The report says that the Blues think the 38-year-old manager will favour a move to Stamford Bridge over Brighton and Manchester United amid potential interest from them.

The Guardian shares that Ipswich have heard Chelsea’s interest and will offer McKenna a new deal. However, the feeling at Chelsea is that their pursuit of McKenna is moving in the right direction.

It’s worth adding that it’s still considered an open race, which is why Chelsea have also made checks on Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as they keep their options open still.

Kieran McKenna links hot up

From the report above, McKenna to Chelsea sounds like it’s becoming increasingly likely as this manager search takes an interesting twist.

The “brilliant” young manager could be fast-tracked right into one of the biggest jobs in the country.

He’s had a great education with Ipswich recently, with the crowning moment securing promotion from the Championship with 96 points this year.

The former Manchester United assistant is scheduled to be in the Premier League next season as Ipswich boss. Could he end up in an opposition dugout, though?
