Report: Nottingham Forest want head coach preparing for European final to replace Nuno

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is a big fan of a head coach preparing for a European final to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Portuguese incumbent has helped Forest remain in the Premier League this season but his future is uncertain.

Fabrizio Romano claimed on Monday that Forest might not keep Espirito Santo and now rumours look to be circulating.

Furthermore, Bayern have Forest man Espirito Santo on their shortlist to become their new manager.

Now, a name has emerged and it would appear that Forest are in the process of sounding out other head coaches.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Mariankis likes Vincenzo Italiano

There is never a quiet day in the news when it comes to Nottingham Forest.

Now, no sooner has Espirito Santo achieved his remit with the Reds he could be looking for work once again.

According to The Standard in Greece, Forest owner Marinakis is a huge fan of Vincenzo Italiano who is currently in charge of Fiorentina.

Nothing on this one will be imminent with the Serie A outfit preparing for a Europa Conference League Final against Olympiacos.

It’s interesting that this news has come out a week before Marinakis’ other club are due to play against Italiano.

The Forest owner will have a chance to watch the manager in action and afterwards, he will perhaps be talking over a move to Nottingham with him.

Who is Vincenzo Italiano?

The 46-year-old was born in Germany – but moved to Italy at six months old – and spent the vast majority of his career playing football in the birthplace of his parents.

He played for Trapani, Hellas Verona, Genoa, Chievo and Padova.

As a coach, he was handed his first gig as an assistant manager at Venezia in 2015 and then coached the youth teams at Lupranense San Paolo and Vigontina San Paolo.

In 22018 he took a job with Trapani and a year later moved to Spezia where he immediately achieved promotion to Serie A.

In 2021, he caught the eye of Fiorentina and that’s where he’s remained ever since.

He led the team to the Europa Conference League final last year but lost in heartbreaking circumstances to West Ham who scored a late goal.

Now he’s reached the final of the tournament once again and will have the Marinakis-owned Olympiacos in his sights.

Sacking Espirito Santo would be very harsh

Naturally, Marinakis is a very ambitious owner but at some point, he will have to give a head coach the chance to build something.

These reports perhaps suggest that he’s not happy with what he’s seen from Espirito Santo at Forest.

Sacking him would be harsh considering what he’s had to go through at the City Ground.

Naturally, this might just be a ploy from Marinakis to unsettle the Fiorentina head coach ahead of next week’s European final.

Italiano would be a useful appointment if Marinakis saw it fit to remove Espirito Santo at Forest.

However, letting the current head coach stamp his own authority on the club is probably the absolute least he deserves after 2023/24.
