Suffolk Police using helicopter in search for missing Hugh Edgecombe from Long Melford

Police are focussing on a Suffolk river as the search continues for a missing 86-year-old man.

Hugh Edgecombe was last seen in Long Melford at 2pm yesterday, Wednesday, May 22.

In an update a police spokesperson said: “We are carrying out a number of enquiries to find Hugh, including tracing his movements on CCTV and doorbell footage in the local area.

“Police have been assisted by a helicopter from the National Police Air Service, Suffolk Fire and Rescue and volunteers from Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SULSAR).

“Our searches today will be focussed on the River Stour.”

Hugh is described as white, approximately 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build and has grey hair.

He was last seen wearing a navy-blue waterproof jacket, black shorts and black shoe and was carrying a walking stick and yellow shopping bag.

Officers are concerned for Hugh and are asking anyone who has seen him or who has any information on where he may be to contact Suffolk Police on 101 quoting CAD 288 of 22 May.
