Report: £60m Wolves star could quickly become 'prime' target for PL rivals despite recent O'Neil claim

Wolves will be eager to retain their top players ahead of the 2024/25 season however, holding onto one player in particular may prove to be incredibly difficult.

After the difficulties that Wolves faced in the 2023 summer transfer window, Gary O’Neil will be desperate to finally replenish the squad he inherited from Julen Lopetegui.

The Englishman was left with little time and few resources following Lopetegui’s swift exit just days prior to the start of the Premier League season, as key players were offloaded to help alleviate financial pressures.

While Wolves’ finances were bolstered, O’Neil’s squad was left incredibly bare, with there now hope that the upcoming transfer window will see new faces arrive at Molineux.

That being said, departures are also likely this summer, with several of the manager’s best assets already linked to moves away from the club, as one player stands out as the most in-demand.

Arsenal are seriously considering a transfer swoop for Pedro Neto

The future of Pedro Neto has been a narrative surrounding Molineux for some time after the Portuguese winger showed his best form at Wolves early in the 2023/24 campaign.

In the opening 10 games, the winger secured eight goal contributions, hitting searing form before he sustained a hamstring injury.

Despite injuries plaguing another one of the 24-year-old’s seasons at Molineux, one club are reportedly ‘seriously considering’ making a move for the Portugal international, with Arsenal re-emerging as a potential buyer, as per GIVEMESPORT.

Last month, the Gunners were speculated to be planning summer talks over a potential deal for Neto, with GIVEMESPORT now detailing that the North Londoners want to make the Wolves star a ‘prime target’.

The report also mentions Newcastle United and Manchester City as being admirers of Neto, who is set to have an interesting summer ahead.

Pedro Neto transfer situation can only end positively for Wolves

The desired scenario going into the summer would be for Wolves to retain Neto, who has shown some of his best form at Molineux playing under O’Neil.

While the 24-year-old’s injury record is a concern, the quality that he can exhibit on his day is unmatchable in the manager’s squad and arguably, in the Premier League.

The Wolves boss advised the media this month that the forward would be ‘absolutely fine’ with the prospect of remaining at Molineux however, there could be some positives to his sale.

In the instance of losing the winger, the Old Gold can still come out on top, with the profit generated expected to be significant with the Midlands club speculated to have set a £60m asking price.

Lauded as ‘outstanding’ by Wolves legend John Richards for his form throughout the 2023/24 calendar, Neto has proven his quality in the Premier League, making him an in-demand asset for clubs in the English top flight.

Based on the financial status of the side’s reported to have interest in the wide player, interest could go as far as inducing a bidding war for his services, which could bolster the Portuguese star’s price tag.

For now, Neto’s focus will be on the Euros after being named in Portugal’s squad for the tournament, with a successful run in the competition also having the opportunity to expand his sale price.
