Witchford Under-12 Girls celebrate being crowned champions in first season of competitive football

Witchford Colts Under-12 Girls have been crowned Alan Boswell Group Cambridgeshire Girls and Women’s Football League U12B champions.

The team, which is jointly managed by the combination of Jamie Mott and Craig Finbow, have lost just two matches on their way to securing the title in what is their first ever season of competitive football.

Their most recent outing – a 2-2 draw on the road against Girls United at the weekend – took their goal tally for the campaign to 50 from 19 matches, with striker Hattie Ashton having netted 36 of those.

Joint manager Finbow said: “Girls’ football is really starting to explode with more teams being started up in multiple ages groups.

“This group of girls have won the league playing football the right way, in a positive environment, and we have had other league managers message congratulating the girls as the best team in the league that play football with a smile on their face and a positive attitude.

“Overall, Jamie and I are just incredibly proud of the girls for their hard work, team spirit, and amazing football attitude towards learning and bettering themselves. It’s fitting this season has ended with a trophy.”

Witchford, who have triumphed in all nine of their home matches this term, will sign off for the 2023/24 season on Saturday (25 May) when they play host to bottom-of-the-table Peterborough Thorpe Wood Rangers.
