Cesc Fabregas says player who left Man United on a free was even better than Eden Hazard

Cesc Fabregas has suggested that one former Manchester United player was better than Chelsea hero Eden Hazard.

The Belgian was one of the best players in the Premier League during his time at Stamford Bridge. He was absolutely incredible to watch and played a huge part in Chelsea’s success.

Fabregas knows just how good Hazard was having played with him, but he has still rated a Manchester United legend higher than the Belgian.

Cesc Fabregas picks Wayne Rooney over Eden Hazard

Wayne Rooney was a superstar during his time at Manchester United.

The Englishman joined the Red Devils from Everton as a teenager in the summer of 2004 and established himself as a key player under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He spent 13 years at Old Trafford and became one of their greatest-ever players, scoring 253 goals and providing 139 assists in 559 appearances.

Rooney also won 17 major trophies at Manchester United, including five Premier League titles and a Champions League, before leaving them on a free transfer to return to Everton in 2017.

Eden Hazard didn’t have as illustrious a career as Rooney did, but he was still a magnificent player to watch during his prime.

Cesc Fabregas is a massive fan of his, so much so that he ranked him over 10 superstar footballers including Sergio Aguero.

However, when the debate was between Hazard and Rooney, there was only one winner in Fabregas’ mind – he picked Rooney over the former Chelsea star in a video on Goal.

What Eden Hazard once said about Wayne Rooney joining Chelsea

There were a few times when Wayne Rooney came close to leaving Manchester United.

One such occasion was in the summer of 2013 – Jose Mourinho‘s Chelsea were really keen on bringing the Englishman to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues even had a few bids rejected for Rooney by Manchester United (BBC).

Rooney stayed at Old Trafford in the end, but while Chelsea were pursuing a move to sign him, Eden Hazard publicly addressed the prospect of welcoming Rooney to his side.

He said in 2013, as per The Telegraph: ” Rooney would be a brilliant signing.

“He’s a really great player who has the experience, and he’s still only young, at 27. He’s got a few years left to play. It’s always a pleasure to play with great players, and Chelsea sign great players.”
