Tottenham Hotspur are now changing their mind on signing ‘brilliant’ English winger this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for attacking signings this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to take the club forward.

Fifth place and Europa League football was a decent season for Tottenham, especially after losing Harry Kane and being left in such a mess towards the end of last season.

Ange Postecoglou will not be happy with that though – far from it.

The Australian wants to take Tottenham much further but plenty of summer business will be needed.

A raft of players could leave Tottenham this summer and Postecoglou has made his top priority abundantly clear.

Speaking after Wednesday’s friendly with Newcastle United, Postecoglou admitted that he wants attacking signings this summer.

Wingers and strikers will both be on the wish list with Postecoglou making his demands absolutely clear to Daniel Levy and Johan Lange.

Tottenham Hotspur want Callum Hudson-Odoi

Speed and flair on the flanks would be welcomed at Tottenham and one homegrown option is emerging as a real target.

Reports earlier in the week claimed that Spurs are interested in signing Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The former Chelsea talent was really able to get his career back on track after joining Forest for just £3million last summer.

Hudson-Odoi hit eight goals in 29 Premier League games and Tottenham appear to have been left hugely impressed, just like former Spurs man Gary Lineker, who has hailed him as ‘brilliant’.

The Guardian report that Tottenham were actually offered the chance to sign Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea last summer.

Tottenham weren’t interested then and instead signed Brennan Johnson from Forest, paving the way for Hudson-Odoi’s move to the City Ground.

It’s now stated that Tottenham’s opinion on Hudson-Odoi has ‘changed’ and he is featuring prominently on the Spurs wish list this summer.

Spurs are yet to make a decision on Timo Werner whilst Manor Solomon’s injury problems mean another left-sided winger would be ideal.

That is exactly where Hudson-Odoi has been playing for Forest and Tottenham may well fancy adding him to Postecoglou’s options.

Hudson-Odoi was a difficult evaluation

The frustration here is that Tottenham will now face paying much, much more than the £3million Forest paid less than a year ago.

To not be interested at £3million but now looking into a move for a considerably higher price doesn’t look great.

In Tottenham’s defence, Hudson-Odoi was available for £3million for a reason.

Hudson-Odoi spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen but managed no goals in just 14 games.

After bursting onto the scene at Chelsea, Hudson-Odoi has struggled for form and fitness and managed just 29 league games across two seasons before joining Forest.

Forest have been rewarded for gambling on Hudson-Odoi’s talent and ability but Tottenham clearly felt that a risky move for him just wasn’t right when a top target like Johnson was there to be signed.

Spurs also have new decision-makers in the transfer market with Johan Lange and Rob Mackenzie taking on key roles since last summer’s window.

Maybe Lange and Mackenzie are driving the change in verdict on Hudson-Odoi, but he has certainly become a name to keep tabs on heading into the transfer window.
