Wolves must look at ‘wonderful’ EFL dynamo as a bargain successor to Pedro Neto - opinion

Wolves are eyeing improvements to their squad and in the case Pedro Neto departs, Gary O’Neil should look at a ‘wonderful’ player from the Championship.

Wolves ended their 2023/24 Premier League campaign in disastrous form, collecting just one win from their final 10 matches.

For Gary O’Neil and his injury-depleted side, the curtain drew on a successful campaign at just the right time, with the Wanderers clear of the relegation places.

O’Neil will now be looking at Fosun to arm him with the funds to bolster his squad. However, the 41-year-old’s previous comments don’t sound too promising, and the club may be forced to sell before they can buy.

Pedro Neto is the most likely candidate to leave Molineux, with Wolves slapping a £60 million price tag on the Portuguese superstar. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old’s injury troubles have seen interest in his services decrease, but if he does depart, there’s a bargain alternative O’Neil should be eyeing.

Wolves could sign Jonathan Rowe to replace Pedro Neto

As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Wolves will likely consider a bid for Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe this summer, even without Neto’s departure.

Rowe played an integral role under David Wagner as he fired Norwich into the play-offs. The Canaries, though, were heavily beaten by Leeds United in the semi-finals however, it was still a campaign to remember for the England under-21 star.

The 20-year-old plundered 12 goals and produced four assists in 38 appearances, including a brace against rivals Ipswich Town.

Lauded as “wonderful” for his performances in the second tier, Wolves are crying out for an electric winger with low centre of gravity.

Rowe – who ranked in the top 7% among Championship wingers for fouls drawn and the top 20% for carries into the penalty area – is the ball-carrying machine capable of filling Neto’s void.

The precocious talent would also provide exceptional quality and depth on either flank, with O’Neil forced into playing left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri as a winger at times last term.

How much would Jonathan Rowe cost?

Rowe looks ready to make the Premier League step up and Wolves would love it to be with them.

The young winger tore apart the Championship last season and has the searing pace, low centre of gravity and decision-making to flourish in the top flight.

With Wolves unlikely to spend big unless some key first-teamers are sanctioned, Rowe isn’t likely to join Molineux unless Neto or another player departs.

However, if the Wanderers wanted to prise him from Carrow Road, a fee upwards of £20 million should be enough to sign him.

We’ve seen elite Championship players become world beaters in the Premier League, including Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Ivan Toney. Rowe could add his name to that list if he signs for Wolves.
