Sam Allardyce suggests ‘phenomenal’ manager could be put off the Chelsea job because of Graham Potter

Chelsea are searching for a new manager.

The Blues have let Mauricio Pochettino go, and now, the search for a new head coach is on.

So, who will Chelsea hire? Kieran McKenna is one candidate who has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but according to Sam Allardyce, that may be a difficult deal to do.

Indeed, speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Allardyce questioned whether or not McKenna would want this job due to the fact Graham Potter’s decision to go to Chelsea backfired so badly last year.

Kieran McKenna might not want Chelsea job because of Potter

Allardyce spoke about the Chelsea managerial situation alongside Paul Dickov.

“Who do you think will be the next Chelsea manager?” The host asked.

“I would like to see someone like Kieran McKenna,” Dickov said.

“Well yes, but would Kieran after watching what happened with the previous managers? Graham Potter, I spoke to him last night and he’s only had a couple of opportunities to get back in and he didn’t think it was right for him,” Allardyce said.

Money talks for McKenna

McKenna will know the risks of taking the Chelsea job after what happened to Graham Potter, but, at the end of the day, money talks in this game.

Yes, Potter’s reputation took a massive hit when he was sacked by Chelsea, but with a huge payoff in tow, the English manager probably doesn’t mind all that much.

Let’s not forget, just a few years ago, McKenna was a League One manager, and now, he could get the Chelsea job, this is a remarkable rise and these opportunities don’t come around very often.

McKenna may have some questions about Chelsea’s project, but if the Blues offer him the right package, he’ll surely make the move.
