Bizarre claim suggests West Ham have just made bid for player that's £3m more than asking price

West Ham United have apparently made a bid for a player that’s worth £3 million more than the selling club are asking for.

Bizarre right!

Julen Lopetegui has just been officially announced as the new West Ham manager, and he has a lot of work ahead of him.

The Spaniard obviously has to bring in numerous new signings, but he’ll have to move a good few players on as well.

After our defensive struggles over the past season, signing a top-class central defender will be vital to Lopetegui’s hopes of taking us to another level.

The Hammers are seemingly moving into position to do just that, but there has been a bizarre twist to one of our transfer chases…

West Ham make £13 million Bruno bid in bizarre twist

Flamengo central defender Bruno is firmly on the West Ham radar, and has been for a week or so now.

The South American centre-back has been in fine form for his team this season. In 34 appearances, Bruno has averaged 1.4 tackles, 4.2 clearances and 1.4 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

The Brazilian club were thought to be demanding around £10 million for the defender, and that’s where the big twist is concerned…

According to O Globo, West Ham have offered £13 million for Bruno, 28 – £3 million more than Flamengo actually value the defender at!

The Hammers are said to be closing in on the £13 million signing of the Brazil international, as new boss Lopetegui looks to bolster his back-line.

The Hammers conceded 74 Premier League goals this season just gone – only the three relegated clubs let in more.

So signing a centre-back would have been right at the top of Lopetegui’s agenda.

Whether Bruno is the man for the job at West Ham remains to be seen though. He’s totally unproven in the Premier League, so only time will tell as to whether we’ve got ourselves a good deal or not.
