N.J. man threatened to shoot cops, officials say

A 56-year-old New Jersey man has been charged with making threats on social media about shooting police officers in Bergen County, authorities said.

Todd V. Gentile is charged with one count of third-degree making terroristic threats, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Authorities launched an investigation in early April following “an emerging pattern of social media posts threatening to shoot law enforcement officers,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Gentile, of Oakland, used his Facebook page to make posts threatening to shoot Oakland police officers, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

He was arrested April 4 in Florida for an unrelated bench warrant before being extradited to New Jersey, the complaint said.

A spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office said Friday afternoon there was no attorney listed for Gentile.
