Report: Tottenham target now set to sign new contract until 2029, just as Spurs were preparing a bid

One Tottenham target is now set to sign a new contract – just as Spurs were preparing a bid.

Ange Postecoglou faces a pivotal summer in N17 as the Australian attempts to bridge the gap on juggernauts such as Manchester City – with a large squad turnover expected.

However, plans to bolster the squad at Tottenham have already been dealt a blow…

Tottenham handed Andrea Cambiaso blow

A story from Tutto Juve in Italy now claims that Andrea Cambiaso has agreed to sign a new contract with Juventus.

It comes just hours after Corriere di Torino reported on Thursday that Spurs were preparing a €40m (£34m) bid to sign the Italy international, who can play on the left or right of defence in either wing-back role.

Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Cambiaso – so this update will come as bad news to both the red and white side of north London.

Tutto Juve believe the Italian has agreed a new deal in Turin running until the summer of 2029 – which also includes a pay rise – as reward for his excellent 2023/24 campaign, in which he provided nine goal involvements from defence across 39 appearances.

Spurs need a wing-back

As the chance to sign Cambiaso slips away, Tottenham need to reassess their options, as a new wing-back is desperately needed.

Emerson Royal is up for sale after a challenging 2023/24 campaign under Postecoglou, Ryan Sessegnon is set to leave when his contract expires at the end of June, and Destiny Udogie – despite his brilliance – was arguably overworked last season, which led to the Italy international needing surgery on his left quadriceps in April.

Therefore, Tottenham badly need depth in this area – even Oliver Skipp, a natural central midfielder, was being trained up as cover on the left of defence in the final few games of last season.

Hopefully – after Cambiaso agreed to stay at Juventus – Spurs have another target in mind.
