‘Set the bar so high’: Kyle Walker reckons ‘fantastic’ Man City player can get even better

Kyle Walker has claimed that one of his Manchester City teammates has what it takes to become even better.

The full-back recently captained the Citizens to their historic fourth Premier League title in a row and could look to lift the FA Cup this weekend by beating Manchester United.

Now though, the full-back has been sharing his thoughts on one other figure in the City squad and what he has the ability to do in the future at the club.

Speaking in a recent video shared on the ESPN UK YouTube channel ahead of the FA Cup final, Walker had this to say when asked if he thinks Phil Foden is one of the best players in the world right now.

He said: “I think he’s proved it this year.

“I think you’re only as good as your last game or as your last season and this season’s been fantastic for Phil.

“The hardest thing now is replicating that next season because as soon as you start having a couple of bad games or that purple patch kind of wears off, people are going to be on your back, especially in this media of today in England where people like to bring you up very quickly and then bring you down even quicker.

“Listen, he’s got a lot of roles and responsibilities on his shoulders now he’s set the bar so high but I have full faith and confidence in him that he can do it again and get even better because he’s working with one of the best managers, if not the best manager in the game and he needs to thrive off of that.”

Foden’s star season

Looking back over the recent Premier League campaign, the 23-year-old scored 19 goals and delivered eight assists in 35 matches.

His overall league performances earned the Englishman a strong season rating of 7.55/10 from WhoScored, making him the fourth-highest-rated player in the division.

This led to Foden being named the FWA Men’s Player of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season.

Even though he’s had a pretty phenomenal individual season the fact that Walker still thinks his City teammate has what it takes to be even better next season shows how much belief the defender has in Foden’s ability and work ethic.
