Gutted Philippe Clement launches bizarre rant after watching Celtic beat his Rangers side again

Rangers manager Philippe Clement claimed his team were better than Celtic after watching the double-winners come out victorious in another derby this season.

Adam Idah was the goal hero for the Bhoys in a 1-0 Scottish Cup final win at Hampden, netting in the 90th minute after much-hyped goalkeeper Jack Butland parried a shot into his path.

Afterwards, manager Brendan Rodgers lauded his players for showing the mentality to come through another tense match as winners.

It was indeed a tight, nervy 90 minutes. Neither side really produced sustained periods of quality, especially in the attacking third.

However, Clement seems to feel his team were hard done by on the day, stating that Rangers were better and ranting about a correctly disallowed goal.

Philippe Clement delivers verdict on Celtic vs Rangers

The Ibrox boss said [Clyde 1]: “The general thought is that you are disappointing you lose. Even people of Celtic, everyone was saying we were the better team today. In that way, it’s mixed feelings. You are disappointed because you do everything to win. I’m also proud about what the team has shown today.

“We get two shots on target today, we get a goal, we need to score in that moment. If you have the scenario also that you score goals and they are disallowed in that way. That moment is disappointing if I compare to Scales’ push on Dujon Sterling in the first half. It’s a much bigger push than what happened with Joe Hart.

“I see also all the Celtic defenders are grabbing my players and having their arms around their neck and waist, it’s a really big call to make to disallow that goal.”

Clement has refused to give Celtic credit all season, at one point coming up with an alternative league table that – for him – showed that his team had done better than the Bhoys.

This is just the latest bizarre rant in what I feel will be a familiar pattern from the Belgian while he remains in charge at Rangers.

The facts are that he has played Celtic four times since arriving in Glasgow, losing three and drawing another at home.

Celtic are double winners. Celtic have proven they are the best team in Scotland. Celtic have shown again that Rangers can’t touch them. That may be inconvenient for Clement, but it’s true.
