Report: Eddie Howe has now told Newcastle staff to start looking at star Alan Shearer hailed as 'really talented'

Newcastle United are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer.

It remains to be seen, of course, quite how far Newcastle can go in a supposedly planned rebuild of Eddie Howe’s squad due to FFP limitations but there has been talk of a big overhaul.

Indeed, the season just gone was a testing one at St James’ Park. While there were a number of great moments sprinkled throughout it, consistency was a real issue for the club.

Howe’s squad was stretched almost every way imaginable amid an unrelenting injury crisis, so reinforcements would be most welcome indeed.

Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabioyo of Bournemouth and Fulham respectively are believed to be close to signing for Newcastle in an effort to bolster defensive ranks.

Given the remarkable drop-off in defending in the season just gone when compared to Howe’s full first season in charge, that feels like huge progress.

Still, the defence is not the only area of the squad arguably in need of a face-lift.

With both Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron linked away, perhaps the frontline could do with some reinforcements.

Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, who club legend Alan Shearer hailed as “really talented” earlier this season, has frequently been linked with a move to Newcastle.

Though more of an attacking midfielder by trade, the 24-year-old is also able to operate out wide.

Now, there have been some developments.

Eddie Howe has now told Newcastle staff to start looking in-depth at Morgan Gibbs-White

According to GIVEMESPORT, Howe has set the recruitment staff at Newcastle a task.

They claim that the Newcastle boss has tasked those in charge of player recruitment to start assessing Gibbs-White’s performance for Forest last season.

Interestingly, they suggest the former Wolves star could be viewed as potential cover and competition for Joelinton in midfield.

Tottenham are also keen but Newcastle are thought to be considering whether to make a move.

Morgan Gibbs-White already has something Eddie Howe will love

Proven in the Premier League after some standout performances for a Forest team battling relegation for much of the campaign, Gibbs-White looks a logical addition under Howe.

Young enough to be able to develop and having already amassed some decent experience at the top level, it seems like a wise move, on paper at least.

Gibbs-White recorded ten Premier League assists last time out, as well as scoring five goals. In Newcastle’s squad, that would rank him joint-first and joint-sixth respectively.

Being able to operate in a number of different positions would also likely appeal to Howe, who has openly talked about how much he values versatility in a player.
