‘What a performance’: Chris Sutton blown away by one Man United player’s FA Cup final display

Chris Sutton lauded one Manchester United player after yesterday’s surprise FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Erik ten Hag headed into the clash at Wembley under huge pressure but picked up his second trophy as Manchester United boss.

Alejandro Garnacho punished a mix-up at the back between Stefan Ortega and Josko Gvardiol to hand United a lead on the half-hour mark.

The Red Devils built on a promising start to the final by doubling their lead through Kobbie Mainoo just nine minutes later.

While their first was slightly fortunate, there was no luck involved with United’s second as they produced a stunning team goal.

Mainoo, who produced a well-taken finish after an inch-perfect pass from Bruno Fernandes, put in yet another impressive display in the middle of the park. The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes and has earned praise from Chris Sutton.

Following yesterday’s surprise FA Cup final victory for United, Mainoo has received plaudits from the likes of Ian Wright and Garnacho.

Sutton also took to X after the game and lauded the United youngster.

He wrote: “Kobbie Mainoo what a performance,” alongside two round of applause emojis.

Mainoo’s stats vs Manchester City

Mainoo was among United’s best-rated players on the day, with Sofascore handing the youngster a match rating of seven.

Only Garnacho, Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka bettered that on Saturday and the statistics reflect yet another all-action display in midfield.

  • 90 minutes played
  • 1 goal
  • 21/25 passes completed
  • 1/1 dribbles completed
  • 1/4 ground duels won
  • 6 times possession lost
  • 1 clearance

Mainoo looks set to head to the Euros with England this summer and off the back of yesterday’s performance, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him pushing for a place in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI.
