‘What about’: Naomi Schiff suggests Carlos Sainz should consider signing for 456-point F1 team for 2025

The dust has settled on another Monaco Grand Prix and it was a race that Ferrari and Charles Leclerc fans won’t forget for a long time.

After countless years of bad luck at his home circuit, the Monegasque driver kept Oscar Piastri and his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz at bay to finally win on the streets of Monte Carlo.

Racing driver and Sky Sports F1 pundit Naomi Schiff was speaking ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix about the future of Leclerc’s teammate.

While the 26-year-old has been signed up to a long-term deal by Frederic Vasseur, Sainz will be moving on at the end of the season.

He’s put in some admirable performances, with his win in Australia after appendix surgery the obvious highlight.

However, he’s yet to confirm the next step in his Formula 1 career with several offers on the table.

Schiff believes that Sainz should try and orchestrate a move to Aston Martin for 2025.

The British team have been on the rise over the past two seasons but had a weekend to forget in the principality.

Naomi Schiff suggests Aston Martin move for Carlos Sainz in 2025

Ferrari and Aston Martin enjoyed very different race weekends in Monaco.

The Italian outfit celebrated a double-podium finish with both drivers holding off their McLaren counterparts.

The red flag in the first lap came at an important time for Sainz who had stopped on track after picking up a puncture following the slightest piece of contact with the side of Piastri’s car.

With all four of the leading drivers switching onto the hard tyres during the stoppage, the strategy element of the race was removed and they came home as they began the race.

Aston Martin, on the other hand, had an awful lot of work to do after a challenging qualifying session.

Fernando Alonso failed to get out of Q1 in back-to-back races for the first time since 2018.

His teammate Lance Stroll didn’t fare much better, starting 13 and after Alonso built up a huge gap for the Canadian to pit onto fresh tyres, just a few laps later he hit the barriers and picked up a puncture.

This ended their slim chances of scoring any points with their closest rivals RB narrowing the gap in the Constructors’ Championship once again.

Schiff believes that a partnership between Aston Martin and Sainz next season could benefit both parties.

However, there’s one obvious issue with this plan.

Aston Martin have nearly completed their driver line-up for 2025

Speaking about the Spaniard’s future, Schiff said: “Look, I think it could be one of two things, either Sauber/Audi or maybe even Williams, maybe Jenson [Button] knows a little bit more about than we do.

“But, what about Aston [Martin]? Aston [Martin] could still be an option but I don’t know, I think it’s going to be between Sauber/Audi and [Williams].”

Asked who’s leaving Aston Martin if Carlos Sainz joins the team, Schiff added: “Well, I think you can guess.”

Fernando Alonso signed a new deal with Aston Martin in April and will be with the team when the sport’s new regulations are introduced in 2026.

Lance Stroll has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal but is reportedly on a rolling contract and given his father Lawrence runs the team, it’s hard to see him before dropped.

Eddie Jordan has previously echoed Schiff’s thoughts that an Alonso and Sainz combination at Aston Martin would be brilliant.

Damon Hill has predicted the same thing as well, although there’s no suggestion that the trio have any inside information on what’s going on within the paddock.

Sainz won’t be short of options ahead of next year and is being patient before making a final decision.

An all-Spaniard line-up would be very exciting, but at this stage, it appears to be a pipe dream rather than a reality.
