'That's wrong': Robbie Savage seriously annoyed by comments made about £4m manager linked with Man United job

Robbie Savage has now aired his frustrations regarding some of the chat surrounding one candidate to become the next Manchester United boss.

In all honesty, United’s FA Cup final win has probably made Erik ten Hag’s future a lot more difficult from the club’s point of view.

Before winning the trophy and beating rivals Manchester City in impressive fashion, it seemed fairly certain that Ten Hag would be let go this summer.

Various reports suggested as much, but having now delivered back-to-back trophy winning campaigns, amid the difficult conditions at Old Trafford, Ten Hag has won a lot of popular support once again.

The Dutchman now has a lot of sympathy among fans and pundits, who were calling for him to leave just a few days prior.

That being said, Ten Hag being in charge next season is still far from certain, and it appears as if a list of candidates are being considered.

One of those is former Man United man and current Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna.

Robbie Savage angered by suggestion Kieran McKenna wouldn’t have respect of Man United players

Given all he’s achieved with Ipswich, McKenna is a very credible candidate for a top job right now.

And when speaking on BBC 606 late on Sunday, Robbie Savage was angered by one fans suggestion that McKenna would struggle to tell the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford what to do.

Also linked to the Chelsea job recently, there have been some concerns regarding McKenna’s ability to manage at a top club despite his strong credentials.

But Savage rubbished this fan suggestion, saying McKenna, who reportedly has a £4m release clause right now, deserved a lot more respect.

He explained: “You tell me why? You tell me why a respected coach who has earned it, he was at Manchester United, has done the hard yards, he has built his way up, he has got back-to-back promotions with Ipswich Town, a big football club.

“And if he got the job at Manchester United, don’t you think because he has managed Ipswich, he doesn’t get the respect. I think that’s wrong.”

Of course, there will be Manchester United fans who agree with Savage on this one, but appointing McKenna would surely divide opinion nonetheless.

It’s all very hypothetical until a decision on Ten Hag’s future is made by the club, with a season review set to take place this week.

All that being said, Saturday’s FA Cup win may have actually helped United land a key signing.
