'Final detail': Fabrizio Romano says there's now only one thing preventing Chelsea from announcing Enzo Maresca

Chelsea look like they are close to settling on their new manager as they edge towards appointing Enzo Maresca as their new head coach.

Maresca has shone in his first season in charge of Leicester as he led them to promotion back to the Premier League with ease in the end.

The Foxes became known for playing some of the most exciting football in the Championship and clearly, those in charge of Chelsea have been impressed by his work.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, a deal for Maresca to become Chelsea boss is now all but done.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Enzo Maresca to Chelsea

Romano has been all over the Chelsea manager news and he’s taken to social media over on X today to share the very latest on the situation.

And it seems Maresca has said yes, with the formalities of the contract now being drawn up and agreed on.

Maresca a risky appointment for Chelsea

There’s plenty to like about Enzo Maresca and clearly, he’s a good tactician with an eye for detail in how he has his teams play.

However, there is also a big element of risk here for Chelsea.

They are appointing a manager who has just the single season under his belt as the main man in charge and given the characters and money in the Blues squad, this will be a huge step up for Maresca.

Of course, working with what many will consider to be better players could well suit Maresca. And given he’s from the Pep Guardiola school of thought, the blueprint is there to succeed.

However, it does feel like Chelsea are taking a few steps back here to take even more forward.

Like Mauricio Pochettino, Maresca is going to need to time to make his mark on the club and get all the squad playing just how he wants them.

Once again, then, Chelsea could find themselves playing catch up unless Maresca does get off to the perfect start.
