'Didn't mention him': Chris Sutton says £21m Man United player's FA Cup final display has gone under the radar

Chris Sutton has claimed that one Manchester United player’s FA Cup final display has gone under the radar.

Manchester United secured an unlikely 2-1 win over their Manchester rivals at Wembley on Saturday.

It saw Erik ten Hag deliver his second trophy in two years after heading into the final with plenty of speculation surrounding his future.

The Red Devils were good value for their victory at Wembley and certainly didn’t lift the trophy due to a stroke of fortune.

Not many gave United a chance after their worst-ever season in the Premier League, particularly as Pep Guardiola’s side had just scooped their fourth consecutive title.

While Kobbie Mainoo deservedly grabbed the headlines after netting United’s second of the game, his midfielder partner Sofyan Amrabat also caught Chris Sutton’s eye.

Sutton delivers Sofyan Amrabat verdict after FA Cup final

Amrabat forced his way into United’s side towards the end of the season and proved to be an important part of their FA Cup victory.

The Moroccan hadn’t enjoyed an ideal debut campaign at Old Trafford beforehand but has impressed in recent weeks.

And while speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Sutton was keen to point out his display in the middle of the park.

“They were very brave in possession,” the pundit said. “There was a game plan and I felt that was the only way United could win.

“But they had a really good structure, we have mentioned Mainoo but probably didn’t mention Amrabat enough, the protection he gave the back line. He went for athleticism with his line-up, it worked well.

“I loved the second goal and showed great quality. One of the best goals I have seen in an FA Cup final, the blind pass from Bruno Fernandes was so good.”

Will United keep hold of Amrabat?

Amrabat joined on a season-long loan deal from Fiorentina last summer, with United paying an £8.5 million%20to%20take,and%20free%20agent%20Jonny%20Evans.) fee to sign the midfielder.

The Red Devils have the option to make the move permanent for £21.4 million this summer.

Back in January, it was claimed that United will ‘cut ties’ with Amrabat this summer but whether or not his late-season displays have changed their stance remains to be seen.

Much is likely to depend on who’s in the dugout next season, with Ten Hag’s future currently up in the air.
