‘I’d say’: Five-time Premier League winning striker says he wishes he’d played for Celtic

Wayne Rooney doesn’t have many regrets from his playing days.

He won basically all there is to win at club level, and while he may not have had the impact he may have liked at the international level at major tournaments, he still had a remarkable career.

However, speaking on The Overlap, Rooney has shared one thing he wished he’d done during his career.

Indeed, Rooney was asked if there was any club he wishes he’d played for, and he noted that he wished he could’ve played for Celtic during his pomp.

Wayne Rooney wishes he could’ve played for Celtic

The five-time Premier League winner shared his desire to play for the Scottish giants.

“The club you wished you had played for during your career?” Rooney was asked.

“Celtic I’d say,” Rooney said.

Wayne Rooney would’ve been perfect for Celtic

Rooney and Celtic could’ve been an absolute match made in heaven.

An absolute firebrand on the pitch, Rooney’s personality is so well-suited to Celtic as a club, and that’s before we even discuss his footballing ability.

England’s former all-time record goalscorer was undoubtedly one of the best players of his generation, and even in his latter playing days, he likely would’ve been one of the best players in Scotland.

We’ve seen veteran English strikers having a huge impact in Scotland before – Jermain Defoe banged in the goals during his initial loan spell with Rangers back in 2019/20, and if Rooney had joined Celtic instead of DC United after leaving Everton, perhaps he could’ve been a bit of a latter-day legend at Celtic Park.

Unfortunately, we never got to see Rooney play in a green and white hooped shirt, but the idea of the Manchester United legend turning out for Celtic would’ve been very exciting to say the least.

Rooney would’ve been a great fit at Celtic, that’s for sure.
