‘He’s bulked up’: Alasdair Gold has noticed one Tottenham youngster is looking much bigger now

Tottenham faced Newcastle in a post-season friendly in Australia this week.

There wasn’t too much to report from the game as both teams seemingly just wanted the season to be finished at this point.

However, Spurs did field a few interesting young players against Newcastle, including Dane Scarlett.

The striker got an opportunity to show what he could do against Newcastle, and while he didn’t grab any goals, he did impress in another way.

Indeed, according to Alasdair Gold, speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, what was noticeable about Scarlett was how much he had bulked up.

Dane Scarlett has bulked up

Gold noted that Scarlett looked as though he had grown.

“Dane did well in terms of getting into good positions. He looks like he’s bulked up. Seeing him on the pitch and then seeing him walk through the mixed zone afterwards, he looks like he’s been working on his physique which is good, that’s what he will need to hold up the ball in any type of football,” Gold said.

Dane Scarlett could get a chance next season

Dane Scarlett has faded from the Spurs spotlight as youngsters such as Jamie Donley and Mikey Moore begin to make more and more headlines. However, we mustn’t forget how highly rated this young man once was.

Jose Mourinho was semi-regularly using Scarlett when he was just 16 years old, and you don’t get that sort of treatment unless you’re something special.

Of course, as a teenager, Scarlett was too lightweight to make much of a splash. However, now, it sounds as though he’s really filling out into a potential physical force as a striker.

Scarlett has been putting in the work behind the scenes, and who knows? If he impresses in pre-season, maybe he’ll get a shot next season.
