Farewell to long serving councillor and alderman Jeff beck

TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-serving, former West Berkshire councillor, Jeck Beck.

Mr Beck, who stood down as Conservative district councillor for Clay Hill ward last May after 19 years’ service, was made an honorary alderman last July.

He had served as district council chairman in 2014, as a committee chairman from 2007 to 2013, then again in 2015, and finally between 2019 and 2020.

Mr Beck was made an Honorary Alderman in July 2023.

Former council leader Lynne Doherty said of him: “Jeff is the embodiment of someone with a sense of duty.”

West Berkshire Council issued its own tribute this week, stating: "We are saddened to hear news of the death last week of Alderman Jeff Beck at the age of 91.

“Jeff was a West Berkshire and Newbury Town councillor for many years, a former mayor of Newbury, and a former chairman of West Berkshire Council too.

“We are grateful for his years of service to the community, and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time."
