Report: Champions League club now set for talks with 'terrific' Sheffield Wednesday target this week

Sheffield Wednesday have suffered a blow in their pursuit of a ‘terrific’ youngster.

The summer transfer window isn’t set to open for another few weeks, but Sheffield Wednesday have already set out their plans as they look to improve on last season.

The Owls are waiting for a number of their key players to sign new contracts with the club, but are also eager to bring in some new talent to help the team push further up the table.

While Wednesday have long been eager to bring Ike Ugbo back to Yorkshire this summer, they have also reportedly reignited their interest in Mika Biereth.

Arsenal recalled the striker from his loan spell at Motherwell in January and was linked with a move toHillsborough, but eventually joined Austrian club Sturm Graz.

Biereth went onto finish the season with a whopping 24 goal contributions and has since attracted interest from Wednesday once again.

Mika Biereth set to hold talks with Sturm Graz

Danny Rohl‘s side are yet to make a move for Biereth, but could already be set to miss out on him.

According to theEvening Standard, Arsenal are set to hold talks with Sturm Graz this week as they look to sign him permanently.

The ‘terrific‘ 21-year-old only has a year remaining on his contract at the Gunners will have to make a decision on whether to let him leave for good or send him back out on loan.

Wednesday will be joined by a number of Championship clubs in competing with Sturm Graz for his signature, however they will certainly hold an advantage after finishing top of the league.

Sturm Graz ended RB Salzburg’s ten-year reign as Bundesliga champions and have now qualified for the Champions League.

Biereth would surely be tempted by the promise of European football, but may also not want to move away from England permanently.

Mika Biereth or Ike Ugbo?

If Sheffield Wednesday can manage a deal for Mika Biereth then he could be a real game-changer, having claimed 83 goal contributions in 117 appearances in both senior and youth football.

However, he certainly couldn’t be blamed if he chooses to play in the Champions League and battle for Sturm Graz’s fifth league title.

Wednesday will surely favour a move for Ike Ugbo anyway, which seems a lot more likely to materialise.

The Owls have already‘initiated contact’ over a second deal for the striker, and bringing Ugbo back to the club would be one huge step in the right direction.
