Rapid Borussia Dortmund forward who Michael Edwards wanted at Liverpool could be sold this summer

Liverpool fans will be looking forward to seeing what Michael Edwards comes up with this summer.

Two years after leaving Liverpool, Edwards has returned in an omnipresent CEO of football role.

During his previous spell at Anfield, the data guru earned his reputation as one of the wiliest operators around. Liverpool barely missed in the transfer market.

Now backed by a crack team including new sporting director Richard Hughes and former No.2 Julian Ward, Edwards has all the tools to carry on his good work from before.

It could well be that the man FSG have entrusted their football operations to returns for former targets. And with that in mind, one looks set to be put up for sale.

Karim Adeyemi back on the market

Liverpool usually made the right decision in the transfer market with Edwards guiding Jurgen Klopp.

As a result, it’s hard to look back and regret any signings they didn’t quite get over the line.

One who falls into that category is Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi.

Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Adeyemi before he moved to Dortmund two years ago. The Reds were claimed to be in talks with RB Salzburg throughout the early part of 2022.

In fact, with Edwards at the helm, Liverpool’s interest in Adeyemi is reported to date all the way back to 2019. Despite tracking him for such a long time, the Reds missed out on the German, with Dortmund swooping in.

But having failed to truly catch fire at the Westfalenstadion, journalist Florian Plettenberg has taken to X to report that Adeyemi could be on the move again this summer.

“At the right price, BVB is open to discussions and would be willing to sell the 22 y/o winger,” says Plettenberg on Adeyemi. “Contract until 2027 and he is looking for a new agent. Adeyemi with a market in the Premier League. There are already interested teams.”

Should Liverpool return for Karim Adeyemi?

Adeyemi’s time at Dortmund has surely been a disappointment. He’s never fully broken into the best XI and has just 14 goals in 65 games.

With Liverpool reportedly on the lookout for a striker, that’s hardly a record which will catch their eye.

Having said that, Adeyemi does offer more than just goals. He’s been recorded as one of the quickest players in the Champions League this season.

Minus Darwin Nunez, Liverpool’s forward line is seriously lacking in pace. Adding a player like Adeyemi to the mix could help massively with that.

At just 22, the Germany international still has plenty of scope to improve further, too.

Versatile, experienced and left-footed, there is perhaps an argument that Adeyemi could even be the much-vaunted Mohamed Salah successor. Let’s see if Liverpool’s interest is piqued.
