Taylor Swift didn't hesitate when someone brought up her 'biggest' fault - 'She's so right'

Taylor Swift once drew a comparison between her and Ed Sheeran when interviewed about songwriting, earning support from fans.

Taylor Swift is on a whole other level right now. The Eras Tour has become the highest-grossing music concert of all time, she’s the most-streamed artist of all time on Spotify with a staggering 108.2 million monthly listeners, and you’re never likely to meet a single person who doesn’t know her name. With such overwhelming popularity and milestone after milestone hit, there also comes criticism. But let’s not forget that Tay’s debut studio album was released in 2006… she’s no stranger to soaring love and festering hate. Detractors continue to voice their belief she only writes songs about her exes, and she’s combatted this before.

Taylor Swift brings up Ed Sheeran in old interview

The year was 2014, and Tay’s fifth studio album 1989 was blasting over the radio, headphones, and in the hearts of Swifties everywhere. That very same year, she sat down with the Australian radio station 2DayFM and acknowledged the widespread criticism dismissing her as a woman who just writes music about ex-boyfriends.

“You’re going to have people who are going to say, ‘Oh, she just writes songs about her exes'”, she explained. “Frankly, I think that is a very sexist angle to take.”

She drew comparisons between two artists, including Ed Sheeran, who released his massive No. 1 sophomore album X the same year, making him the perfect case in point.

“No one says that about Ed Sheeran,” she said of the criticism aimed at her. “No one says that about Bruno Mars. They’re all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life, and no one raises a red flag there.”

Although there have been rumors for years regarding who certain songs of hers are about, she has never outright named names. She brought this up in the interview too, priding it as a “strict personal policy” of hers. “So anybody saying that a song is about a specific person is purely speculating,” she reinforced.

“[Listeners] use you writing songs about your life as a way to play detective,” she reflected, noting that her debut album was released at 16 and people have gone back to it with a different perspective in the wake of her rising star power.

Fans ‘completely agree’ with Taylor after interview resurfaces

A clip of Taylor comparing herself to the Thinking Out Loud English singer-songwriter has reemerged online in recent weeks, sharing her wisdom with fresh eyes and ears.

“That is perfectly true,” a Swiftie reacted in the comments. “Most songs in history are about losing love, getting love, keeping love.”

Another said they “Completely agree,” praising The Tortured Poets Department icon as “So damn smart and willing to speak up.”

“You go girl,” another championed. “Tell it like it is!”

One attempted to try and understand why the criticism remains so predominantly in the discourse surrounding Taylor’s music. “Her problem is that she does it so well,” they argued. “She is also prolific, hit after hit. I think truth plays a part, and jealousy another.”

One of the most liked comments on the thread drew attention to her back catalog of songs that explicitly aren’t about her exes or romantic relationships at all. “Most of her haters just listen to the media narrative without even giving her a chance or listening to any of her music.” they signed off their take.
