Highclere artist Chris Boulton had an incredibly busy weekend at his recent charity art exhibition, with more than 70 visitors to Westridge Studio and an amazingly positive response to his pop up installation ‘Austin Powers’ bedroom which he set up to display his painted mannequins, furniture and cushions - all with furniture supplied by the Community Furniture Project, who also helped him manufacture some of it.
This, his fourth charity exhibition raised £1,600 for Chris’ two cancer charities, Pelican Cancer Foundation www.pelicancancer.org and My Cancer My Choices www.mycancermychoices.org
Chris is a bowel cancer survivor and also suffered a cardiac arrest in November. Each year he holds a charity exhibition as part of the West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios. In February he held a Heart of the Matter fundraiser for defibrillators.
For his year’s Open Studios Chris, who is best known as the chief executive of Greenham Trust, presented a very different show, letting his imagination run riot with paintings of dance and installation works.
He explained: “This year I thought I would do some very different works of art and bearing in mind my love of Northern Soul and that I have started to learn to ballroom dance many images are inspired by dance.
“I have also enjoyed experimenting with fabrics and furniture.
“It is an extra special exhibition for me in view of what’s happened over the last few months.”
