'Players believe': How Chelsea players really feel about Enzo Maresca joining the club - journalist

Chelsea players are about to get a new manager just a week after Mauricio Pochettino’s departure.

Mauricio Pochettino left Chelsea by mutual consent last Tuesday and is now set to be replaced by Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues are about to appoint Maresca as their new manager.

The 44-year-old only joined Leicester last summer but helped the Foxes to win promotion back to the Premier League this season.

One talkSPORT pundit fears Maresca could bring a very boring brand of football to Stamford Bridge.

The mood among Chelsea players ahead of Enzo Maresca’s imminent arrival

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, several Chelsea players were disappointed to see Pochettino go.

That is hardly a surprise, as things were starting to click under him.

The Blues won all of their final five Premier League fixtures, helping them to qualify for European football.

Nevertheless, it looks like they are excited about Maresca coming to the club.

Discussing his imminent arrival on Substack, Jacobs said: “Although it’s true several players were disappointed to see Mauricio Pochettino leave, there is already excitement at what Maresca can bring.

Chelsea’s players believe momentum is on their side and Maresca’s favoured 4-3-3 should favour the squad he inherits.”

Chelsea players should be excited about Enzo Maresca joining the club

Maresca being a success at Chelsea is obviously far from a guarantee. After all, he has not even managed in the Premier League before.

That being said, the Italian has worked with Pep Guardiola, arguably the best manager in the world, and wants his team to get on the ball as much as possible.

This season, his Leicester side had the second-highest ball possession average in the Championship, according to WhoScored.

It means Chelsea could be quite a dominant team in the Premier League next term if Maresca can transfer his ideas to Stamford Bridge successfully.

It is understandable that some players in the squad did not want Pochettino to depart, but they are simply going to have to move on now.
